One of the great traditions of the Jewish year, is the Tikkun Leil Shavuot, an evening of Torah study during the first night of the Festival of Shavuot.

Shavuot, one of the three Pilgrimage Festivals, celebrates the giving of the Torah, God’s gift to the Jewish people. Biblically, Shavuot is known as the festival of the harvest, and day of the first fruits. In addition to Torah study and the eating of dairy foods, Shavuot is observed by the reading of the Book of Ruth. In addition to being our first Jew by choice, Ruth was the great-grandmother of King David, who according to our tradition, was born and died on Shavuot.

This year, our erev Shavuot program will begin at 7:30PM on May 14th.   We will begin with a brief Ma’ariv service followed by wine and cheese. Cantor Berman and Rabbi Wiederhorn will be teaching for the Tikkun Leil Shavuot.

Cantor Berman will discuss: “The Scroll of Ruth: From a Life of Emptiness to a Life of Completeness.”
Rabbi Wiederhorn will present: “The Messiah: What Do We Believe?”
The evening will not end without some delicious dairy desserts and coffee.

Wednesday, May 15 at 9:30AM Shavuot I  services
Thursday, May 16 at 9:30AM Shavuot II services – Yizkor will be recited
So that we can make sure there is sufficient food and drink for all, we ask you to please RSVP by May 8th.
