Join TCS and The Federation for Jewish Philanthropy as we welcome our special guest for Shabbat, MK Amir Ohana, who will address the community during Kabbalat Shabbat services, is the uncle of our Israeli Emissary, Noa Feldman.
MK Amir Ohana has been a Member of Knesset since 2015, representing the Likud party. Born in 1976, Amir was raised in the southern city of Be’er Sheva, and served 12 years in the Israeli security system, both as an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and in the Shin-Bet, the Israeli Security Agency (ISA). As an attorney, Amir worked in the Attorney General’s office and in the private sector.
Amir is one of the founders and leaders of the LGBT Caucus of the Likud party – the first organization dedicated to promoting LGBT issues in the Israeli political right, and the first openly gay Knesset member to be elected in an open primary elections in Israel.
Amir chairs the Knesset Subcommittee for Personnel in the Israel Defense Forces and is a member of the House Committee, the Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee, and the subcommittee for Intelligence & Secret Services. Amir’s priorities in the Knesset include national and personal security, LGBT freedoms, and maintaining the territorial integrity of the Land of Israel, with the understanding that withdrawals and concessions would not bring closer the hoped-for peace – but distance it.
Amir lives in Tel Aviv with his partner and their two children.
