ADULT EDUCATION

Summer Book Group:

Join us for an evening of discussion and dessert.

Wednesday, July 16, 7:30 pm

David Liss' award winning first novel, A CONSPIRACY OF PAPER, is set in the first stock market crash in 1720's England.  Benjamin Weaver, a retired Jewish boxer and proverbial black sheep, spends his days tracking debtors and thieves.  His   investigations lead to the unraveling of business      secrets, family secrets, and dangerous liaisons in a world where Sephardic and   Ashkenazi culture clashed and business dealings were for the conniving, the strong, and the rich. "It is a well-balanced, enlightening, exciting, and murderously captivating book. A CONSPIRACY OF PAPER is a no-(over)load fun(d) for everybody."  All are welcome!

Book Group will be hosted in a congregant’s home.  Please RSVP to the synagogue office   (454-4673); they will let you know the location.

ADULT ED THANKS......

Adult Education programs continued in May with "Kern/Berlin: An Evening of Music". Thanks to our talented performers: Cantor Berman, Dana Feinberg, David Gottlieb, Larry Kleinman, Danielle Merlis, Alan Radin, Jay Rand, Ed Smolka and Rabbi Tobin.

Our Erev Shavuot program "Israel at 60" afforded us the opportunity to study with and learn from David Baker, Brandon Davis, Michael Fraade, Michael Kassen, Len Russ, and Rabbi Tobin. Thanks to these teachers for their presentations and insights.

We extend all best wishes to Rabbi Tobin, Lisa, Maya, Yossi, Ezra, and Avi in their new home and congregation. We appreciate and thank Rabbi Tobin for his leadership and commitment to a thriving and diverse adult education program. We look forward to working with Rabbi Wiederhorn in the development of future programs, classes, lectures, concerts, book discussions, and films of interest to our congregation.

Although the summer months are generally quiet, we will be offering two programs which should not be missed. The first is the book discussion which we rescheduled from June and the second showcases a documentary by congregant Ilana Merlis; see below for details.

This has been an exciting year for TCS Adult Ed. Let us take this opportunity to thank committee members Mike Smith and Debbie Smolka and Alan Clement, our Executive Committee Liaison, for their many thoughtful and creative efforts and contributions.
